At just 4 square miles with only 300 human inhabitants,
Jost Van Dyke's reputation far exceeds its small size. At the center of its fame is Foxy, a larger-than-life character with a namesake bar that has helped to put his island home on the world map.
From college co-eds to salty sailors, people from all walks of life have been mixing easily at Philicianno "Foxy" Callwood's world-renowned beach bar in the British Virgin Islands for nearly 5
decades. In this land of coconut palms, sand beaches and bare feet, simplicity reigns - making Foxy a king. A quick-witted, guitar-strumming, barefoot jokester, "Foxy" developed his island
empire from a humble start. Back in the 1960's, the young entrepreneur saw an opportunity to cater to visiting sailors.
In the years since his modest beginnings, Foxy's has added a boutique (The Fox Hole in Great Harbour),
a second restaurant
(Taboo, located at the Eastern End of Jost Van Dyke) and a small on-site beer
brewery, which helps to keep visitors supplied with libations. A life-long sailor and fisherman, Foxy also has a fishing business which provides fresh local lobster to the restaurant and a new water taxi/charter boat that
helps transport guests to and from Jost Van Dyke. Seeing the changing landscape of the Virgin Islands, he even started the Jost Van Dykes Preservation Society - a non-profit organization,
which manages conservation and heritage projects on the island, including the building of a wooden island sloop. In recognition for his contributions to tourism
and heritage, Foxy has received numerous international awards, and in 2008 Her Majesty, the Queen of England appointed him as a Member of the British Empire.
No visit to the Virgin Islands is complete without a visit to Jost Van Dyke, the smallest of the inhabited British Virgin Islands, where Foxy is waiting to welcome you with a cocktail and companionship.
